Nehemiah 9:6 “You alone are the Lord. You made the
heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all
that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything,
and the multitudes of heaven worship you.”
In May of this year my wife Pam and
I moved into a home that is new to us. Next to our home is a house that is
under construction. A year ago there was an empty foundation. Today there is a
house that is about 60% complete. To say this is a work in progress is
charitable. But to the builder, it is moving forward at his pace. The builder
is in charge and he will finish the house when he is darn good and ready. For
the rest of us in the neighborhood, we just want it finished.
When was the last time you stopped
to contemplate the magnitude of creation? Have you really stopped to fully
consider creation? Genesis chapters 1 & 2 gives us some measure of insight
into the process. But, the words of these two chapters just give us a grain of
sand on a beach of understanding for the magnitude of creation. In the last one
hundred years of human history, travel to faraway lands has come within the
reach of ordinary citizens. And with this ability to travel has come the
ability to share what can be seen in other parts of creation. If you considered
all that we have in southeast Idaho as the full magnitude of creation, we would
be giving little credit to God in what He accomplished. Mankind has set foot
and captured images and experiences from all the continents of the world.
Mankind kind has seen the many wonders in the creatures and the geology found
in the depths of the oceans. Mankind has slipped the bonds of this planet and
journeyed to our distant moon. Astronauts have walked in a place that is both
desolate and profoundly beautiful. And mankind has sent probes to distant
worlds and beyond our solar system in an attempt to more fully grasp the beauty
and magnitude of creation. And along the way, you and I are given the
opportunity to see what can be seen through the pictures taken, and the words
written to describe what was seen and experienced. When we leave our own little
world in southeast Idaho, we see with our own eyes and experience with our own
senses that very same creation. God did all this at his own pace and to His
design. What an awesome God and Father we have. God spoke creation into being
and it happened. Whenever we think our God has limits, all we need to do is
just look around. For in creation, God displays His awesome power. Its’ a power
that we mortals can scarcely grasp. How often we forget the magnitude of the
power of God. Jesus said it best in Matthew
19:26 Jesus looked at them and said,
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
