Psalm 79:9 Help us, God our Savior, for the glory of
your name, deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake.
My old
smart phone was giving me fits. I was slow but ran the new operating system,
just not as well as it should in my judgment. So, when my contract came up for
renewal I upgraded to the newest version. I purchased the device protection
plan along with a nice protective case.
Two weeks after receiving the new phone, I dropped it and severely
cracked the screen. Yes, the phone was out of the case. In processing my claim
I was surprised to find the deductible for the replacement is half the cost of
the new phone. Once again I am reminded of the difference between forgiveness
and insurance. One covers you completely, the other doesn’t.
The lesson of
my smartphone insurance versus the forgiveness from God was painful to
experience financially. Unfortunately I am an experiential learner. On a rare
occasion I can learn from someone else’s experience. But, for the most part, I
learn from my own mistakes. It is painful, to learn this way. And I tell people
I am not smart, just experienced. I know I will make mistakes, just as you know
you will make mistakes. The average human makes about 6 mistakes per hour. Some
are big mistakes immediately noticed. And some are small mistakes you may not
notice. Just like sins. We are human. We are incapable of being sin free. We
have big sins and small sins. We have deliberate actions, unkind thoughts, or
thoughtless errors and it does not matter. We sin. In that state we are lost in
our sinfulness. We are completely and utterly incapable of restoring ourselves
to a right relationship with God our Father. Without His forgiveness we have no
hope. Many will try to find righteousness through their own efforts and deeds. Sadly
they are lost. But, we have been saved. The Psalms are full of verses of
forgiveness from the Father. He is faithful and forgiving to His people. We,
who are grafted onto the vine, can claim that same forgiveness and can find
peace in that forgiveness. Sorry, I won’t expound on the role of Jesus Christ
in our salvation except to say that is how we are saved. I am saving the role
of Jesus and His Real Love for week three. If you want proof, look at Matthew
3:16. It’s all the proof anyone needs. It’s God’s word and He is ever faithful
and forgiving.
Our Father
shows His Real Love in caring for us, and forgiving us. In spite of ourselves
we are loved and forgiven. Even when we are lapse in showing our love for our
Father, we are still loved. Friends, we have been delivered.
