1 Kings 8:27&28
“But will God really dwell on earth? The
heavens, even the highest heaven cannot contain you. How much less this temple
I have built? Yet give attention to your servant’s prayer and plea for mercy,
Lord my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your
presence this day.
Tis the season for distractions. Fa La La La La, La La La
La! We are just a few days into the post-Black Friday shopping season. If you
look around you can see distracted people everywhere. Driving while texting,
walking while looking up shopping lists on their smart phones, or stopping
suddenly in the aisle at the store. Distracted people are everywhere. I apologize
ahead of time if you see me in the store and I have a blank expression on my
face and do not recognize you. I am just as distracted as the next person.
There are
two common misconceptions people have about God. Human nature tries to force
our own perceptions and realities upon others. To that end we just do not fully
grasp the ability of God to multi-task. Neither can we grasp fully the complete
lack of limitations God has in relation to how he can be everywhere
simultaneously. Our own limitations in
being able to concentrate effectively on more than one thing at a time are
often projected towards our perception of God. Often we forget God exists
outside of our perception of time and space. He spoke the creation into being.
Do you suppose he can not do more than you or I? How foolish people can be in
thinking God can only hear the prayers of cries of one person at a time. Often we chose not to go to God in prayer
because we think our concerns are too small for God to consider acting on or
listening to. We are stupid in that respect. He love us, he listens to us
regardless of the magnitude of our concern or prayer. He desires a relationship
with us and just like in our own relationship there must be communication. In
our relationships with family and friends we talk about big things and small
things. Most importantly we talk in a relationship because in talking we are
sharing our selves. And through that sharing we learn and give love. The same
holds true with God. We pray or cry and he listens. When we take the time in
prayer we can find he speaks. In prayer and meditation he is there. He is right
there with us listening and speaking better than the most attentive friend we
could ever imagine. He is never too busy. He is there when we need Him and even
when we do not think we need Him. He is
always there. He is not limited by space, time or tasks. Speak and He listens.
Give and ear and You will hear Him. God is not distracted. He has been and will
always be just a prayer away and right by your side.
PRAYER: Father, Abba, You are never too busy to not
hear our prayer. You are never too distracted to forget us or ignore us. You
are close by our side. Your love surrounds us and fills us with peace and comfort.
You will not let our prayer or plea for mercy go unheard. For this we give
thanks in the name of Jesus, Amen.
