John 19:16 Finally
Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of
Jesus.
There
comes a point in many of our lives where we, or a loved one goes on to the next
step in their life. For some this may be
a teenager moving out to go to college or to a new job. For some it may be
sending a son or daughter off to serve their country. It may be watching as a family member is
escorted off to serve a jail or prison sentence. For some it may mean saying a
final good bye as they leave this life.
In each of the above cases there is a time when we give up the person we
know with the fervent hope of seeing them again. It can be in this life, or in
heaven. In either situation, we have to trust in God that He will watch over
and love them as we have loved those leaving our side.
Trusting
in God is no easy thing. Trust in God is
also not a conditional form of trust. Trust in God has to be an absolute trust.
Too often our trust in God is based on our own sense of right & wrong or
whether or not the situation meets our plan.
Given these human based conditions, we can often lose trust, or have
misgivings. Trust in God has to be
unfailing. Isaiah 28:16 speaks to the trust that we must have in the corner
stone of our faith (Jesus Christ.) Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh,
“Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a cornerstone of a sure foundation. He
who believes shall not act hastily.”
We are counseled to be sure in our faith and deliberate in our actions
in faith. We should not act or judge in haste.
To that end, we must trust in God.
There
are times when I have (just as you probably have too) come to the Lord in
prayer asking “Why?” Often the Lord’s plan is not my idea of a good plan. Yet
in retrospect, often my short-sightedness is proven to be faulty. Having the
faith to trust God completely is a great prayer request. We need to be able to let go of our fears and
concerns and to trust in God for our lives and the lives of those close to us.
Prayer: Father we are often in a condition of limited trust in You.
We judge Your actions by our standards. We evaluate Your plan against our own
selfish desires for our lives and the lives of others. Forgive us Father for
our short-sightedness. Help us to lean on You at all times. Give us the faith
to trust in You and You alone. Help us
to stand firm when we are tempted to weaken. These things we ask in the name of
Jesus, Amen.
